Sunita says.....

My paintings are nothing but reflections of my thoughts, my surroundings, and the little stories that touch my heart every day. I have always believed that art is a silent language — it speaks without words but connects deeply with the soul. Most of my works are inspired by simple moments of life, things that often go unnoticed, yet carry such warmth and emotion. I love observing people — their expressions, their dreams, their daily struggles, their quiet joys — and I try to capture all of that through colours and forms. My brush becomes my voice. Every line, every shade carries a piece of me.

Nature has always been my first teacher. The way light falls on a leaf, the rhythm of moving clouds, the earthy smell after rain — all these find their way into my canvas. I am also deeply influenced by rural life, traditions, folk culture, and the innocence of childhood. I often paint women, children, fishermen, village scenes, festivals — because these are not just images to me; they are memories, emotions, and stories I have lived or seen around me. I feel a strong connection with their simplicity and truth. My painting Fisher Woman, for instance, is not just about a woman catching fish — it’s about strength, patience, and survival. Similarly, in Children at Play, I tried to freeze that pure joy and carefree spirit which we often lose as adults.

Colours fascinate me. Sometimes bright and bold, sometimes soft and subtle — I let colours speak depending on the mood of the painting. I don’t always plan my palette beforehand. I allow my feelings to guide me. Many times, I start a painting with just a thought or a line or even a vague emotion, and as I work on it, the painting grows on its own, finding its own life. I like this freedom — this organic growth of an artwork.

Symbolism too plays a role in my paintings. The Mask series reflects the duality of human nature — the faces we show and the ones we hide. In Lady with a Cat, there is a silent companionship between the woman and the animal — a bond that needs no words. My painting Love explores emotions in their purest form — simple, tender, and eternal. Sometimes I like to create dream-like atmospheres, like in Moon, where imagination meets reality. My artworks may look simple, but they always carry layers of meaning underneath.

Through my paintings, I want viewers to pause, reflect, and connect — not just with my world, but with their own memories and emotions. Art, for me, is not about perfection. It is about honesty. It is about capturing life in all its colours — with its beauty, flaws, joys, and silences. Every painting of mine carries a story — sometimes mine, sometimes yours.
